Instant Hot Water
We recently replaced our aging 75-gallon water heater with the Navien 240A2 tankless model. One of Navien's standout features is the 'HotButton,' which, when installed in a bathroom, instantly delivers hot water at the tap or shower upon activation. This convenience is made possible by a thermostatic circulation valve installed at the furthest sink from the water heater. The valve ensures efficient water usage, circulating hot water until it reaches 95 degrees and automatically shuts off. Rather than installing a button in my bathroom, I integrated a Shelly 1 Plus device, allowing automated button presses based on daily routines like waking up, getting out of bed, or turning on the bathroom lights. With this setup, hot water is readily available, eliminating the wait time and saving water. This automation addresses the significant water wastage of around 11,000 gallons annually per home – associated with waiting for hot water at the shower.
